"Being Indie is like being self employed. I enjoy it over being signed" -Bxrd with a X
We have the pleasure of sitting down with Brxd With a X, please give us a little background on your musical career and journey. When did you get started and what inspired you to pursue music seriously?
BXRD: Not one moment. More like a collection of moments over a period of time.
Well, we can totally agree that a series of events can lead one to embark on a musical journey. You acknowledging your whole life as a testament leading you to music makes all the sense in the world. Please elaborate on what you'd be doing right now if you weren't doing music?
BXRD: Working with youth, advocating for mental health and writing books.
That's beautiful, it's important to reach out and empower the youth and definitely shine a light on mental health so many people suffer alone or feel there's a stigma still attached to it making it harder to diagnose for those truly in need. We love hearing that it matters to you, maybe you could write a book on it one day, After-all anything's possible.
What’s it like being indie? Do you prefer it over possibly getting signed?
BXRD: Being indie is like being self employed. I currently enjoy it more than possibly getting signed.
What are you currently working on?
BXRD: Definitely more music, perfecting my production, more videos, and a documentary.
What’s your songwriting process?
BXRD: It varies but I'm mostly inspired by production first.
What are some goals you are wanting to achieve in the upcoming 2-3 years involving your music or any other ventures?
BXRD:
Gain a fanbase that will support enough to generate funds to support my other ventures.
Produce on an album that gets a grammy.
Get music placements for recordings, movies and TV.
Build a program for disadvantaged youth and work with schools in Arizona and Texas To make mental health a mandatory class.
What would you say are some challenges you face as a creative?
BXRD: Balancing the place I am in life with where I want to be in a healthy way that is not counterproductive.
What are some of your dream collaborations?
BXRD: Jay Z, J Cole, Busta Rhymes, Roddy Ricch & Vince Staples.
FINAL QUESTION : What is one of your favorite songs you’ve ever created and why?
BXRD: One of my favorite releases was "Great" because it was the beginning of a new sound for me.
